Ocular Surgery
Preoperative
Before surgery the patient is evaluated in terms of systemic diseases, particularly heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, respiratory and rheumatologic diseases.
The general medical checkup also includes some blood tests: blood count, glucose, creatinine / urea, time of bleeding / clotting. These checkups can evaluate if the patient can withstand surgery.
In our clinics, surgery is done ambulatory: the patient comes when it is the recommended moment, is prepared by the competent staff , then operated. At all time, the patient will be monitored by the anesthesiologist, who will contribute to the safe conduct of the intervention.
The anaesthesia is carried by droplets or retrobulbar injection.
Postoperatively
Postoperatively, the patient will remain under observation for about two hours, during that time he will receive verbal and written instructions with recommendations and contraindications in the first weeks after surgery.
In general, postoperative pain is absent or mild and recedes to the recommended treatment.
In the first postoperative day, the patient comes to the checkup and is instructed how to perform and conduct the postoperative treatment. Local treatment will begin with drops, that the patient will continue to apply for six weeks. At the end of this period the patient will be re-evaluated and will receive a prescription for eyeglasses.
Although the postoperative period lasts a few weeks, the reintegration into active life is achieved much faster, in a few days after surgery.
